Hotel Adria Prague
Dear Guests,
As Rome, Paris, and London have their centers, also Prague has a place that is known to everybody as a business and social city center – Wenceslas Square, and the Adria hotel is right there. Please accept our cordial welcome.
The hotel has a long tradition and was re-opened in 1993 after an extensive reconstruction. We will be happy if you feel here like at home, in comfort and ease. Our staff are here to take care of everything.
If you wish to try specialties of the Czech or international cuisine in our unique, ninety-year old Triton restaurant – build in the art nouveau style – you are more than welcome.
The atmosphere, cuisine, service, and familiar melodies played on the piano in the evening will surely make your stay in the hotel very pleasant.
Honor us with your visit and see that there are many good reasons to make the Adria hotel your favorite one.
Adria Hotel in Prague
It is a classic four-star hotel after an extensive reconstruction accomplished in 2003, combining the charm of the old Prague with a comfort of modern equipped rooms. The hotel’s history dates back to the 14th century, when the whole premises belonged to the Carmelitan Convent of St. Mary of the Snow.
The ideal location at the main Prague boulevard in the vicinity of the pedestrian zone of the Franciscan Garden, and its traditional hospitality has made it one of the most favorite hotels in Prague. It is located on Wenceslas Square, in the very center of Prague, in close proximity to all culture and shopping centers, offices of various corporations and airline companies. Other places significant in terms of culture or history can be reached by foot within a few minutes.
Guests can use our Lobby Bar, Triton restaurant in the art nouveau style, which is a unique architectural point of the old Prague with a wide range of domestic and international cuisine, Pluton A and Pluton B lounges, Café Neptun – a center serving breakfast in the hotel, which can also be used for conference or banquet purposes, or as a catering center for tourist groups.
In late 1996 Adria-Neptun s.r.o. purchased the Zlatá hvìzda (Golden Star) hotel in Tøebon, where the quality of service provided ranks the hotel among the top hotel facilities in south Bohemia. Its services also include providing spa services and care for local hotel guests, but also for potentially interested Adria hotel guests. In April 1999 a new sports center was opened there, where not only hotel guests can play bowling (2 lanes), darts or billiard, but also sit and chat pleasantly at the newly opened bar.
In 2000 Adria-Neptun s.r.o. opened the Adria-Neptun Travel s.r.o. travel agency in Tøeboò.
In 2002 Adria-Neptun s.r.o. started its latest activity, famous Prague restaurant "U Pinkasù" on Jungmannovo Square, only a couple of steps from the Adria hotel. The restaurant was opened after a complete reconstruction in October 2002. This typically Czech restaurant was the first in Prague to serve Plzeòský Prazdroj (Pilsner Urquell) on draught as early as 1843.
88 rooms are available to customers,
including studios, suites and rooms for the disabled. Complete reconstrucition was finished at the begining of 2003. Every room has its bathroom with a tub or shower corner, toilet and hair-drier. The rooms are equipped with TV set with satellite receiver, internal information channel, pay TV channels, radio, telephone with a direct dialing option, and a mini-bar. All rooms are air-conditioned.
Guests can take advantage of Ethernet System - high speed Internet access (512 kbps) directly in the room. The hotel has also an Internet room, which is available to the guests 24 hours a day.
The hotel offers a complete range of administrative services, including ticket reservation. You can use our room service, laundry washing and cleaning, safe-deposit boxes at the reception, exchange office, hotel taxi, and last but not least guarded garages next to the hotel.
Near the hotel the guests can make use of services such as hairdresser’s, sauna, body building, massage etc. In summer there are several tables to sit and enjoy the atmosphere directly on Wenceslas Square.
Every room is equipped with a private bathroom, hair dryer, bathrobes, color TV featuring satellite programming and movie channels, radio, telephone with a direct dialing option, mini-bar and an internet connection.
TRITON RESTAURANT
The restaurant retains its original design from 1912, and you will find it in the underground of the Adria hotel. The interior is unique thanks to its stalactite-cave style, underlined by the art nouveau decoration of sculptures and statues of the ancient mythology. Accompanied by captivating music of our piano players, you can choose from a wide range of international and Czech cuisine, and a selection of Moravian as well as foreign wines. You will be served by an experienced team of sommeliers.
HISTORY OF THE TRITON RESTAURANT
In 1911, the house “At the Little Blue Shoe“ was purchased by the hotelier Emil Roèák, who undertook a major renovation of the building, changing it into a hotel and restaurant according to plans of the builder Matìj Blecha. During the renovation a restaurant hall was built under the new wing, which had a stage for cabaret and other entertainment events. The entire hotel building called “Neptune“ received building approval in 1912.
In 1924, the hotel’s new owner, František Tichý, rebuilt the building and adapted the restaurant–cabaret hall to serve as the “Newly Established Theatre in the Adria Hotel“. From the very beginning of Triton restaurant´s existence, significant figures of Czech political and cultural life gathered there – for example Voskovec and Werich, Vlasta Burian, Jan Masaryk, Emil Artur Longen, Jaroslav Marvan, Jindøich Plachta, E. E. Kisch, Saša Rašilov, Hugo Haas, and others. It remains the same today.
In 1951, the building was put under national administration. In 1974, the basement was adapted to serve as the Adria university club.
After the restitution in 1991, when the building was returned to the Tichý and Žukovský families, and upon the establishment of the Adria-Neptun s.r.o. company, plans were made for a complex renovation of the building.
The space of the basement restaurant Triton remained in the style of a stalactite cave created by architect Matìj Blecha. The decoration depicts Pluto’s Underworld kingdom from Greek mythology – the visitor is surrounded by an old Classical story: Orpheus, the mythological singer, is lamenting the death of his wife, the unfortunate Eurydice who was bitten by a snake and is now being taken into the Underworld kingdom by Charon the ferry man, across the river Styx. All that is witnessed by the ruler of the Underworld, Pluto, and Pythia the oracle, who knows well that Orpheus’ singing will not save Eurydice. The entrances to the restaurant are guarded by the three-headed dog Cerberus and dragon Ladon.
